Everything (Almost) Fell Through
What's up gang! It's already been another week and this week was filled. I don't really know how else to describe it. Many things went really well. Many things almost didn't go well. And many things didn't go well. But let's get into it.
Marilene's Baptism
On Saturday, we had the special priviledge of participating in Marilene's baptism! From the first contact where she asked for the Relief Society President's number, to the emotional temple lesson, to the solos I sang to help her choose music for the baptism, this has been a journey! And I wish that I could say it was an easy journey. But for the elect, it never is. She went from coffee to cervada. Stayed away from her unmarried husband. And went to the hospital plenty of times. Then on the day of the baptism, we received a message saying that she needed to reschedule the baptism, she couldn't leave her house, and she didn't want us to come over. So what did we do, grabbed a member, and went straight to Marilene's house. We get there and everyone was drunk, there was loud music, and there was a woman smoking and crying. Turns out, Marilene's friend lost her mom and wanted to kill herself. After talking with everyone for a bit, my companion goes to console the crying daughter with a Plan of Salvation pamphlet. Our member friend talked with Marilene about the importance of not pushing off the baptism. And I was making calls, trying to get a leader to watch the baptism and water in the chapel because it ran out. And some time and some patience, it all worked out and she was baptized three hours later! The spirit was super strong and Marilene was so happy! After the baptism, she asked us, "so when can I go to the temple?" It was amazing!
Birthday Party
During the little time because this confusion with Marilene and her baptism, we held a birthday party for our recent convert to celebrate his 11th birthday! It was "free fire" themed (a video game that everyone plays here in Brazil), and we took some awesome pictures.
Interviews with Pres
After three months without interviews, I finally had another interview with President! Literally these are my favorite days on the mission, because this man is filled with so much spirit and wisdom. The interview only ended up being like 5 minutes long and he talked about my companion for than me, but it was a fantastic conversation nonetheless. After the interviews, President dropped us off at our apartment and didn't know how to leave the complex. We yell, "push the button". Well 5 seconds later, the security alarm starts blazing and we sprint downstairs to see President dying laughing. We open the door, he leaves and tells us it's our problem. I love our president lol.
other cool/notcool things
- Marilene's confirmation almost fell through and we almost missed it at the same time.
- The elect man from last week's girlfriend returned and now we have to deal with that oppisition.
- Had a couple lessons this week where everyone left crying.
- Met this friend who loves the NBA, but then stopped teaching him after he said that he was a Celtics Fan. (just kidding, we're still teaching him)
- our mission culture is completely changing.
- learned some slang.
- played some ping pong.
- ran a young womens activity yesterday and we visited a bunch of less active members in the ward!
That's it for this week! Time to play some soccer and turn into Neymar real quick. I love all of you and I hope that you all have the best week ever!!
