Mission Got Flipped Upside-Down
Wow, I had a crazy week, and the entire trajectory of my mission just changed! Let's get into in.
So it was zone conference, and our mission president decides to invite a police officer to come in and give a training on staying safe in the street. During the training, he asks everyone, "who here is working in the city Bayeux?" My companion, four others, and I raise our hands. He then talks about how a bunch of people are getting murdered there every day. This caught my attention a little bit, and definitely seemed to catch President's attention, because he closed a part of Bayeux and took two missionaries out of the area.
But this is when it gets crazy. Instead of just taking the two missionaries out and putting them in other areas, President creates a giant "mini-transfer" and moves a ton of people around. So that's about when I got the call from the assistants saying that I was being transferred in the morning, and I would be the next financial secretary on the mission. Am I happy about this? No, not really. But will it cure my mission-long toenail problems? I'm really praying.
The sad thing about everything was I wasn't even able to say goodbye to anyone in my area. Everything happened last minute, and I was just able to send out a few messages. But I'm truly going to miss both of the wards in Bayeux, as they have both shaped my mission for me. But now my mission just got flipped upside-down, and I'm starting back up from square-one.
We were able to see a few small miracles that really brighten my week. Here in the office, we have five missionaries, and two more missionaries that help us take care of the area. When I arrived, we had a baptism marked for Friday. The only problem was he wasn't responding to our texts anymore. Well on Wednesday, Elder Oliveira (my old companion) and I went to the mall to pick up some lunch. When we got there, the man preparing for baptism was also there! We were able to talk to him, learn that his phone broke, and confirm the baptism! His name is Ageu, and he was baptized yesterday! He has completely changed his life around, and I was able to see super strongly how Christ's atonement is here to heal and shape us!
I was also able to do an exchange with my MTC companion, Elder Barela! Eventhough he only talked to crazy people on the street, the exchange was an absolutely blast. We found a family that seemed super excited to hear our message! Then out of nowhere, the son told us that he will be baptized in our church when he turns 10. After a quick little chat, we learned that he's going to be turning 10 at the end of this month! We are going to be helping him and his family make an eternal family! And we ended our exchange the best way possible, with chocolate cursted pizza (but they forgot the chocolate).
I'm excited to see what this time in the office brings me. It seems like no one who works in the office seems to enjoy it or seems to be happy, but I'm here to find out why. My new companion is Elder McComb. He's half American and half Brazilian. And he's super ready to leave the office, and is trying his hardest to train me in two weeks, so he can get out of here before the next transfer. All in all, I'm learning, I'm happy, and ready to see what's in store.
But hey, that's about it for today! My pdays will now be on Satudays, so that's an L, but I'll live. We are about to do absolutely nothing today, so feel free to shoot me an email. I love you all, and hope you all have a fantastic week!
